Should You Ask a Friend to Be Your Wedding Photographer?

Let’s face it: weddings
are anything but cheap. From the dress to the food and all the tiny details
that make a Big Day memorable, everything can round up to thousands and even
tens of thousands of dollars.

Naturally, if you are like most brides and
grooms to be, you want to save as much money as possible – but is it a good
idea to ask a friend to provide any kind of service for your wedding day?

Should you ask a friend to be your wedding
photographer, for example? We have some tips for you – so read on and find out
more.

·
Wedding photography is
extremely delicate precisely because of its emotional nature. Capturing
landscapes is one thing, shooting fashion photos is another thing, and even
portrait or fully artistic photography are completely different. Just because
someone is good in one of these niches, it doesn’t automatically mean they will
excel in all others.

·
So, if you have a friend who is
a photographer, but hasn’t done weddings before, you might want to go with
someone who has plenty of experience in this particular niche. The last thing
you want is to “hire” your friend for your wedding photography and be
disappointed with the results (it will ruin your wedding pictures and it has a
pretty good chance of altering your relationship with said friend as well).

·
If your friend doesn’t have
experience in any photographic style, but is “pretty good with the camera”, you
might also want to avoid asking them to shoot photos at your wedding (mostly
for the aforementioned reasons, with results that might be even more
disappointing).

·
Even if you do have a friend who is an actual
wedding photographer, asking them to shoot your wedding may not be that great
an idea. For starters, they are your friend – and you want them to actually
enjoy your wedding (not work at it). Even more, they might be too emotionally
invested in your wedding to look at it through an objective lens (pun
intended).

·
Hiring someone else for your
wedding might be the more expensive option – but given that photography is a
big element of the Big Day, it’s not necessarily something you want to really
splurge on. These are your memories – the memories of the most beautiful day of
your life. So, yes, they deserve the very best!
